The M + R Spedag Group AG , headquartered in Muttenz is an international Swiss freight forwarding - and logistics group . The company transports all types of goods worldwide. In European traffic, the goods are usually transported by truck or in combined transport by rail and truck, to the other continents by sea or air freight . In addition, M + R Spedag offers logistics solutions in the field of warehouse logistics and related services. The second generation family business has 58 locations in 23 countries and employs more than 1000 people. In 2006, M + R Spedag generated sales of 420 million Swiss francs.
history
The company was founded in 1952 by Roger Metzger and Hansruedi Richner as a forwarding company. The main activity initially was road transport from Germany to Switzerland. Later, other services were gradually added, including exports and trade in goods with other European countries, in particular France, Benelux, England and Scandinavia. After the death of Roger Metzger in 1975, the company was continued by Hansruedi Richner alone.
With the takeover of Spedag Speditions AG in 1979 , a Basel forwarding company founded in 1928 that specializes in overseas transport, M + R, which had previously mainly been active in road transport, expanded its activities to new areas. As a result, the company grew by setting up various locations on the American continent, in the Far East and in Africa. In 2001 Hansruedi Richner handed over the operational management to his son Daniel Richner, who in April 2006 also took over all company shares.
