The MaK 1000 D is a four-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotive from the manufacturer Maschinenbau Kiel , which is designed for heavy-duty shunting and medium-haul service. It was built in connection with the MaK 1200 D and was the less powerful version of both locomotive types. The locomotives are not listed in the German vehicle settings register.

development

As a further development of the MaK 850 D , this locomotive was built by MaK in Kiel from 1955 . The first locomotives of the series were delivered to Cuba , where they were even intended for use with express trains.

The remaining of the 21 locomotives were preferably delivered to larger companies or larger private railways such as the Osthannoverschen Eisenbahnen (OHE) and the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (WLE). The locomotives belong to the first generation of MaK and Vossloh locomotives . They have a power transmission with coupling rods . The designation scheme expresses the performance program (roughly the engine output in HP) and the wheel alignment.

technology

The locomotives still corresponded to the design of the pre-war locomotives; Front-mounted locomotives and chassis with rod drive. The superstructures have been improved so that the locomotive staff can see all around. Compared to the first locomotives of the generation, the MaK 1000 D have cabs with sun protection roofs. The train driver's ascent took place via shunting steps and circulation on the front of the driver's cab.

It was driven by a slow-running six-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine from MaK with a hydraulic transmission from Voith . The engine achieved its extra power compared to the MaK 850 D through the use of a turbocharger . The power transmission was carried out by connecting rods. In order to achieve the required curve radius, the two outer drive axles were connected to one another with Beugniot levers . The locomotives of this series did not have a shunting gear.

commitment

The first locomotive of the series was a demonstration locomotive of the MaK and was rented to the OHE. It was in use there until 1979, when it was retired and scrapped in 1984.

The next eight locomotives were delivered to Cuba. There is no information about their further fate. Other locomotives were sold to German private railways such as the OHE , Farge-Vegesacker Eisenbahn , Bentheimer Eisenbahn , Dortmunder Eisenbahn , Teutoburger Wald-Eisenbahn , Braunschweigische Landes-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , WLE and the Niederrheinische Verkehrsbetriebe .

While one source speaks of 22 locomotives manufactured, another mentions 25 locomotives manufactured. Some locomotives were scrapped, the majority were sold abroad. The locomotive with the factory number 1000012/1959 has been preserved. As a trial, it was designed for a top speed of 92 km / h and was used by several private railways. It was later fitted with a new 850 hp engine with modified controls. This is why the locomotive can occasionally be found as the MaK 850 D. It was sold in 1991 to the Association of Traffic Amateurs and Museum Railways.
