Ma Tong (Islamic scholar)

Abu Yusuf Ma Tong ( Chinese  阿布 · 尤素甫 · 马 通 , Pinyin Abu Yousufu Ma Tong ; * 1929 in Zhangjiachuan , Gansu Province ) is a Huichinese scholar of Islam whose main focus is the history of Islam and the Hui Chinese in northwestern China .

Life

Ma Tong studied law at the University of Northwest China in Xi'an and passed the exam there in 1949. Years later, he became director of the Nationalities Institute of Gansu Province and research assistant at the Gansu Provincial Museum in Lanzhou . He is considered to be one of the best experts on Chinese Islam .

He is the author or editor of academic writings such as Zhongguo Yisilan jiaopai yu menhuan zhidu shilüe ( 中国 伊斯兰教 派 与 门 宦 制度 史略  - "Brief History of the Chinese Islamic Schools and the Menhuan System") and was co-author of: Yisilanjiao zai Zhongguo ( 伊斯兰教 在 中国  - “Islam in China”), Zhongguo Yisilan baike quanshu ( 中国 伊斯兰教 百科全书  - “Chinese Encyclopedia of Islam”), Zhongguo Huizu da cidian ( 中国 回族 大 辞典  - “Great Lexicon of the Hui Nationality of China” ).
