Maacha

Maacha is the name of nine people, five women and four men in the Old Testament .

etymology

The name Maacha ( Hebrew מַעֲכָֽה Ma'acha ) can perhaps be derived from the root מעך ma'ach , which means "to crush".

The Septuagint gives the name in Gen 22.24  LXX with Μωχα Mocha (also in 1 Chr 2.48  LXX ; 3.2 LXX ), in 2 Sam 3.3  LXX with Μααχα Maacha (also in 1 Kings 2.39  LXX ; 15.2 LXX ; 1 Chr 8.29  LXX ; 27.16 LXX ; 2 Chr 11.20–22  LXX ; 15.16 LXX ) and in 1 Chr 7.15–16  LXX with Μοωχα Moocha (also 1 Chr 9 , 35  LXX ; 11.43 LXX ). In 1 Kings 15,10  LXX and 13 LXX another name is inserted with Ανα Ana .

The name Michaja ( Hebrew מִיכָיָ֥הוּ Michajahu ), which is used in 2 Chr 13.2  EU instead of Maacha, is a sentence name and is composed of the question word מִי mi “Who?”, The particle כְּ ke “how” and the divine name יָהוּ Yahu as a form of YHWH . The name can be translated as "Who (is) like YHWH?" The Septuagint gives the name with Μααχα Maacha , thus making an alignment with 1 Kings 15.2  EU .

Maacha, son of Nahor

According to Gen 22:24  EU, Maacha is the youngest son of Nahor , Abraham's brother , and his concubine Rëuma. His brothers are Tebach, Gaham and Tahasch.

Maacha, mother of Absalom

In 2 Sam 3,3  EU Maacha is a wife of King David . She is the mother of his son Absalom and daughter of King Talmai of Geschur.

Maacha, Achisch's father

According to 1 Kings 2,39  EU, Maacha is the father of Achish, the king of Gath .

Maacha, mother of Abijas

A daughter of Absalom is also called Maacha according to 1 Kings 15.2  EU . She is the mother of Abijah , the second king of the southern kingdom of Judah . Whose father is to 1 Kings 14:31  EU Rehoboam . That both are married is only mentioned in 2 Chr 11.20  EU , there also other children are mentioned: Attai, Sisa and Schelomit. 2 Chr 13.21  EU reports that Abijah had 14 wives, 22 sons and 16 daughters. Maacha is finally mentioned in 1 Kings 15.10  EU as the grandmother of King Asa . According to 1 Kings 15.13  EU , Asa relieved her of her position as Queen Mother (Unity and Luther: "Mistress"), because she had erected a cult image for Asherah , which is contemptuously called a "monster". Asa smashed it and burned it at the Kidron Creek .

In the Masoretic text Maacha is not referred to as Asa's grandmother in 1 Kings 15,10  EU and 13 EU , but as his mother. But this is in contradiction to 1 Kings 15.2  EU . The German translations solve the problem in different ways: Mother writes the Luther Bible , Grandmother writes the standard translation . The contradiction can be resolved if one does not understand mother biologically, but as the office that the mother of the king exercised. So it was possible that Maacha kept the office of Queen Mother after the death of her son Abijas and continued to exercise it for her grandson Asa.

In 2 Chr 13.2  EU Maacha is called under another name, namely Michaja. Another father is also attributed to her, Uriël from Gibeah.

Maacha, concubine of Caleb

In 1 Chr 2.48  EU Maacha is Caleb's second concubine . She is the mother of Schebers, Tirhanas, Schaafs and Schewas.

Maacha, sister or wife of Machir

In 1 Chr 7.15  EU Maacha is the sister of Machir, a son of Manasseh . In 1 Chr 7.16  EU she is then Machir's wife. Her sons are Peresch and Scheresch. But the text is very unclear.

Maacha, mother of Gibeon

In 1 Chr 8.29  EU Maacha is the mother of Gibeon and wife Jëiël (first mentioned in 1 Chr 9.35  EU ). According to 1 Chr, other children are 8.29–31  EU and 9.36-37 EU Abdon, Zur, Kisch, Baal, Nadab, Gedor, Achjo and Secher and Miklot (the latter is missing in 8.31)

Maacha, Hanan's father

In 1 Chr 11.43  EU , Maacha is the father of Hanan, a hero of King David.

Maacha, father of Shefatya

In 1 Chr 27,16  EU Maacha is the father of Shefatja, a prince of the tribe of Simeon .
