De Maasduinen National Park in the Noord-Limburg region

The Maas-Niederrheinpfad is a regional hiking trail in the German-Dutch border area. It is the successor to the Maas-Schwalm-Nettepfad, which was supplemented by the Maasduinen-Nierspfad, and has number 10 in the Dutch list of regional hiking trails. The start of this hiking trail is Venlo , the northernmost place is Molenhoek and the southernmost is Wassenberg . The length of this hiking trail is 342 km, 151 km of which are within Germany. The whole route is signposted with yellow and red markings.

A new hiking route has been created through a simplified route structure and the combination with the Maasduinen-Nierspfad.

The main route of the Maas-Niederreinpfad consists of a long stretched loop, about half of which are in Germany and the Netherlands. There are connecting routes from the Dutch to the German side and vice versa at four points.

In the hiking guide published by Naturefriends , the route is described in seven sections:

The four connecting routes are:

  • Connection route A: Bergen– Goch , map A1 – A2, 10.2 km.
  • Connection route B: Well– Geldern , map B1 – B3, 16.5 km.
  • Connection route C: Venlo– Krickenbeck Castle , map C1, 6.1 km.
  • Connection route D: Swalmen - Brüggen , map D1 – D3, 17.9 km.

The Swalmen – Herkenbosch and Brüggen – Herkenbosch routes of the Maas-Schwalm-Nettepfads have hereby been canceled. The last route remains as a path as the NS hike Meinweg .

The hiking guide is published by the Dutch Friends of Nature (Nivon) in cooperation with the Limburgs Landschap and the German-Dutch border park Maas-Schwalm-Nette . The Dutch name of this path is Maas-Niederrheinpad.
