The Mad East Challenge 500 is a multi-day mountain bike event in the Eastern Ore Mountains and the only cross-border marathon race in which the routes run through the Czech Republic and Germany during a race .

history

Children's partakiade

The race was held for the first time in 2004, the year of the EU's eastward expansion, as a German-Czech mountain bike marathon. 260 participants tackled the steeply sloping south side of the Ore Mountains down towards Ústí nad Labem and then the ascent to Altenberg .

The routes are considered to be very demanding. In 2016, for the first time, there is only one marathon day, but three different route lengths. The longest route "Hell" measures a total of 126 kilometers and almost 3,600 meters of altitude across the Ore Mountains , including carrying passages and river crossings. Other routes are the "Medium" with 93 kilometers and 2600 meters of altitude, and the "Light" with 42 kilometers and 1200 meters of altitude.

For those mountain bike riders who prefer to ride downhill rather than uphill, there is the coveted Mad East Enduro . Due to the strong increase in demand in recent years, a competition has been held on Saturday and Sunday since 2015. On the first day, the participants have to tackle five special stages spread over a total distance of 43 kilometers. On the following day, four downhill ratings await 40 kilometers.

The event's program also includes the bicycle spartakiade for children and parties with live bands and DJs. In 2015, over 1000 drivers from all over Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and the Benelux countries competed.
