Romy Beer (born January 14, 1981 in Dohna ) is a former German biathlete .

Career

Romy Beer is the daughter of the successful biathlete Manfred Beer and the former GDR champion in acrobatics Heidi Beer and sister of Katja Wüstenfeld . The police chief lives in Zinnwald , is stationed at the Federal Police Sports School Bad Endorf and starts for the SSV Altenberg . Your trainers are Willfried Bock and Frank Püschel.

In 2000 Beer started at the Junior World Championships for the first time. In Hochfilzen she was ninth in the individual. The following year in Khanty-Mansiysk she won the sprint, came second in the pursuit behind Jenny Adler and won bronze in the relay. In 2003 she started for the first time at the European Championships in Forni Avoltri . At the 2004 European Championships in Minsk , Beer was fourth in the individual and won bronze with the relay, which also included Sabrina Buchholz . She competed again in Langdorf in 2006 .

2001 started Beer first time in Ridnaun in the European Cup and finished second in the sprint. In 2002 she made her debut in Antholz at the Biathlon World Cup in a relay race that she competed with Buchholz, her sister Katja and Peggy Wagenführ . In the following seasons she switched several times between the World Cup and the European Cup team. In the European Cup, she won two races, an individual in Obertilliach in 2005 and a relay in Méribel in 2005 . The greatest success in the World Cup was a 14th place in 2002 in Östersund and a second place with the relay in Antholz.

On May 19, 2009, Beer sustained serious injuries during bike training with teammate Anne Preussler when she fell headlong into the ditch on a wet and slippery road after braking. She was admitted to the hospital with a splintered cervical vertebra, a broken thoracic vertebra, and a contusion on the carotid artery. According to trainer Frank Püschel, she was “ still very lucky. [...] It looked bad. We are glad that she is still alive and that she doesn't have to sit in a wheelchair. “After a severe fracture of the fibula, which she suffered from Frank Luck's farewell race in 2004 , she had to take a long break. In 2006 she was also absent for a few weeks after an operation due to cartilage damage to the ankle. After seven weeks of rehabilitation , she started training again in September 2009 and took part in the first qualifying race for the IBU Cup in Obertilliach at the beginning of December .
