The Madagascar bat flower ( Tacca ankaranensis ) belongs to the yam family .
Distribution area
The species comes from Madagascar , where it is endemic . It occurs exclusively in the area of the Ankarana limestone plateau in the north of the island, where the Ankarana Conservation Area is located in the Antsiranana province . It is a forest plant and occurs in rather dry locations from sea level to about 500 meters above sea level.

The Madagascar bat flower is a perennial herbaceous plant . The plant has the typical Tacca flower with its long, thread-like bracts. The bracts of this species are kept in a shade of green and therefore rather inconspicuous. This flower is on a leafless long stem. It forms thick rhizomes in the roots as permanent organs. The leaves are arranged alternately and have an irregular multi-fingered shape.
