Madan Kumar Bhandari , Nepalese मदन कुमार भण्डारी (born June 27, 1952 in Taplejung , Nepal , † May 16, 1993 ) was a Nepalese politician of the Communist Party of Nepal - United Marxists-Leninists .

He studied in Varanasi , in India , where he also became a member of the central committee of the Janabadi Sanskritik Morcha , a student organization founded by Pushpa Lal Shrestha .

Political career

Soon afterwards he left the circle around Pushpa Lal Shrestha and became a founding member of the Communist Party of Nepal, which in 1991 became the Communist Party of Nepal - United Marxist-Leninists, of which he became the first general secretary . During this time he was perceived as the one who united the party on a social democratic course.

death

Bhandari mysteriously died in a car accident in 1993. In this car accident, Jeev Raj Ashrit , another leading member of the Communists of Nepal, died next to him , only the driver survived the accident. It has often been claimed that this was a planned murder on the part of anti-communist circles. After his death, the Madan Ashrit Memorial Foundation (MAMF) was named after him and Jeev Raj Ashrit. His widow, Bidhya Devi Bhandari , has been the President of Nepal since 2015.
