From 1974 to 1978 the very convention-free program "Jugendfilmklub" ran on the GDR television program. It served as a platform for young people to discuss films. The question kept coming up: Will we do better than the generations before us? Almost 30 years later, Olaf Kaiser tries to find an answer to this question. He seeks out the people who belonged to the “hard core” of the discussion group at the time and asks them what has become of their dreams.

Christine and Dieter were a couple at the time of the "youth film club". After the birth of their daughter, they went their separate ways: while Christine earned her living as a veterinarian, Dieter and his family became loyal churchgoers. Only through Olaf Kaiser does Dieter find out that he is now a grandfather. Stefan studied philosophy, discovered his love for books and fled to West Germany in 1985. Dirk's acting career came to an abrupt end due to AIDS. For his part, Marian crosses the American continents by bike.
