Madeleine Renaud (* February 21, 1900 as Lucie Madeleine Renaud in Paris , † September 23, 1994 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French stage and film actress .

Life

Renaud joined the prestigious Comédie-Française in 1921 . During her professional life she played mostly naive roles. In 1940 she married the actor Jean-Louis Barrault, who was ten years her junior . Together with him she left the Comédie-Française in 1948 and founded the private theater Compagnie Renauld-Barrault in the Théâtre Marigny . Together with her husband, she enjoyed the trust of Minister of Culture André Malraux . This relationship of trust broke when they showed solidarity with the revolting students in Paris in 1968. She has appeared in a large number of theatrical productions and films during her long professional life. One of her best known roles was the Maude in "Harold and Maude". She was the aunt of the actress Marie-Christine Barrault , who was married to Roger Vadim until his death .

Renaud died in September 1994, seven months after her husband's death.
