Madleen Kane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Madleen Kane (born March 4, 1958 in Malmö ) is a Swedish disco singer and former model . In the wake of the disco wave of the late 1970s, she celebrated some successes in this genre until the mid-1980s.

Career

Madleen Kane grew up in a wealthy family. Her father is Swede, her mother American. Her youth were marked by overseas trips, music lessons and dance lessons. As a teenager, she lived with Eileen Ford , whose agency Ford Models signed Kane as a model. In April 1978 it graced the cover of the French Playboy, among other things . Another cover for the Spanish edition of the magazine followed a year later. The included photo series include photos with Grace Jones , Amanda Lear and Flower under the heading "Disco Queens". In July of the same year, a photo series finally followed in German Playboy.

In 1978 Kane signed a record deal with CBS (for Europe) and Warner (for the USA) and started her career as a disco singer with the LP Rough Diamond and the single of the same name. Jean-Claude Friederich produced all publications up to 1980. Kane was able to land several great successes in the disco charts in the USA during this time. Including Forbidden Love / Secret Love Affair (Medley) (1979) and Cherchez pas / Boogie Talk (1980). Cherchez pas was also her only hit in the Swedish charts. In 1981 Giorgio Moroder produced the LP Don't Wanna Lose You with Kane's biggest hit You Can , number 1 in the disco charts and the only single of her career that also made it into the American pop charts (number 77).

After a break, Kane continued his previous successes with the LP Cover Girl , which was based on the high-energy sound , and the single I'm No Angel . After that, she lost interest in her music career. With the exception of a compilation in 1994, which once again gathered all of the singer's great successes, Kane disappeared from the worldwide publication catalogs. She withdrew completely from the public eye, got married and had three children.

In 2013, as part of his book First Ladies of Disco , Kane gave the author James Arena an extensive interview about her career and the decades after. In June 2016 she finally appeared live for the first time in 28 years with a selection of her disco titles.
