Mads Anton Madsen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mads Anton Madsen , also known as MA Madsen , (born November 16, 1880 in Denmark , † April 24, 1968 there ) was a Danish cameraman .

Live and act

Madsen, about whose life little is known, is now considered one of the completely forgotten camera pioneers of European film. After completing his photography training, he also worked in this profession, but joined the Biorama film company at the turn of the year 1908/1909. For this company he photographed a wealth of films until 1913 in which stars like Valdemar Psilander and Clara Pontoppidan acted in front of his camera.

In the middle of the First World War , like so many Danish film professionals, he followed a call to Germany. In 1916/1917 Paul Wegener engaged him in Berlin in his capacity as a director for several of his productions. Madsen's photographic achievements received a lot of praise in the press , especially in the fairy tale film Rübezahl's Wedding . His German career ended in 1920.

After that, you hardly heard from Madsen. After his return to Denmark he did not find a connection to the local film industry and most recently lived as a snapshot photographer on Copenhagen City Hall Square .
