Maevia Noemí Correa (born February 14, 1914 in Buenos Aires , † April 18, 2005 ) was an Argentine botanist . Your botanical author abbreviation is " MNCorrea ".

Life

Maevia Noemí Correa was born in Buenos Aires on February 14, 1914. She married early and had two sons before she started studying. She began studying geology at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata , only to switch to botany shortly afterwards . She wrote both her thesis and her doctoral thesis (1953) on the subject of orchids . As early as 1947 she was employed as a student assistant at the university, from 1955 to 1958 she was a research assistant there. From 1953 she also worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, where she met her second husband, Osvaldo Boelcke . Between 1956 and 1958 she received a scholarship and studied at the University of California, Berkeley . From 1958 to 1983 she did research at the Institute for Agricultural Botany, part of the “ Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria ” (INTA) in Castelar near Buenos Aires. There is also the herbarium of INTA, of which Correa was director during her entire time at the institute.

From 1958 she conducted the floristic investigation of the dry, southern part of Argentina. Their work resulted in the " Flora Patagónica ", the first volume of which was published in 1969. Until 1999, even after her retirement, she worked on the eight volumes of this project as editor and author. In addition to the flora, she published a number of papers on orchids from South America. She was unable to complete her last project, a book summarizing all of her studies on orchids, and Maevia Noemí Correa died on April 18, 2005.

Her first publications deal with various orchids. In its second publication, it described four new species and one new genus . The tribe Chloraeeae was a focus of their studies:
