Mafra is a Brazilian city on the northern border of the state of Santa Catarina .
history
Before 1917 Mafra belonged to the state of Paraná , but the borders were redrawn after a war that raged in the region from 1913 to 1916. So the Rio Negro became the new frontier. The city of Rio Negrinho was thereby divided, so that the part of the city on the south bank became an independent administrative area as Mafra .
economy
Mafra is dominated by agriculture, although only a third of the population lives outside the city. It is mostly grown and bred by small family businesses that, in order to improve their market economy, join forces with other families and specialize in one product . These interest groups are advised by an advice center specializing in agriculture on questions relating to cultivation methods and marketing. Important products are milk , tomatoes , beans , honey , zucchini , cereals , cucumbers , honey and watermelons , mushrooms , rabbits and snails . Some of the snails are air freighted to gourmet restaurants in Rio de Janeiro . The city is also known for its good honey. Due to the natural resources there are also small wood processing plants in which furniture and other wood products are manufactured. There are also brickworks and a tile factory.
Others
Mafra is of interest to paleontologists , as there are some sites with fossils that support the thesis of continental drift between Africa and America . Such sites only exist in this region.
