Magdalena Neff

Magdalena Neff , née Magdalena Meub (born February 9, 1881 in Karlsruhe , † July 19, 1966 in Ehingen ) was a German pharmacist. She was the first student at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and the first licensed pharmacist in Germany.

Life

Magdalena Meub was born on February 9, 1881 in Karlsruhe as the daughter of the master baker Meub. She entered the first German girls' grammar school in Karlsruhe in 1893 and left the grammar school in 1899 with a high school diploma. Then she started her apprenticeship in the pharmacy in Elzach as the first female apprentice pharmacist in Germany . Between 1904 and 1906 she completed a pharmacy degree at the Technical University of Karlsruhe , today's Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) , and in 1906 she graduated as a pharmacist with distinction.

In the same year she married the pharmacist Adolf Neff and with him bought the Löwenapotheke in Ehingen . In 1907 the daughter Hildegard was born.

In 1954 the Löwenapotheke was leased for reasons of age. The couple had run the pharmacy for 48 years. Adolf Neff died in 1961.

Honors

  • In 1964, at the German Pharmacists' Day in Hamburg, she was awarded the Lesmüller Medal as the first licensed pharmacist in Germany and a pioneer for women in this profession .
  • In 1995 the home and agricultural school in Ehingen was renamed Magdalena-Neff-Schule.
