Magdalena Schmidt (gymnast)

Magdalena Schmidt (born June 30, 1949 in Lauchhammer , after marrying Magdalena Jakob ) is a former German gymnast who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1968. She started for SC Dynamo Berlin .

Magdalena Schmidt attended the children's and youth sports school in Forst , which Karin Janz also attended. Like Janz, Magdalena Schmidt also moved to SC Dynamo Berlin to coach Jürgen Heritz . In 1965 Schmidt took third place on the uneven bars in the GDR championship. In 1967 she took third place both on the uneven bars and in the horse jump. In 1968 she was part of the GDR squad at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. Maritta Bauerschmidt , Karin Janz, Marianne Noack , Magdalena Schmidt, Ute Starke and Erika Zuchold took third place behind the ranks from the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. In the individual ranking, Magdalena Schmidt reached 29th place in the all-around competition.

Magdalena Schmidt was first a kindergarten teacher, but then studied political science and was legal advisor for the Berlin sports facility. She is married to the soccer player Michael Jakob.
