action

The film begins with a group of geologists being surprised by a volcanic eruption. They call for help but are killed before it comes. In the next scene, a student persuades geologist Peter Shepherd to take her on his next research trip as a team member.

The number of volcanic eruptions is increasing around the world. Shepherd and his people suspect that the activities of the volcanoes endanger life on earth. An eruption destroys large parts of Japan . Shepherd develops a plan, thanks to which the accumulated magma pressure is to be reduced in a controlled manner by a series of nuclear explosions. The plan is carried out with the help of a submarine that uses torpedoes. It works and the eruptions decrease. Shepherd makes up with his wife.
