Magne Havnå

Magne Havnå , also Magne Havnaa (born September 16, 1963 in Risør ; † May 29, 2004 ibid) was a Norwegian professional boxer and second WBO world champion in cruiserweight . He is considered one of the most successful boxers in Norway.

Career

As an amateur he trained at Sentrum BK Oslo under Leif Hvalby. He boxed in the heavyweight division and was Scandinavian junior champion in 1981. In 1984, 1985 and 1986 he was Norwegian champion in the adult category. At the European Championships in 1983 in Bulgaria he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Ralf Rocchigiani and at the 1986 World Championships in the USA in the quarter-finals against Arnold Vanderlyde . In 1984 he started at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , but was defeated in the first fight against Håkan Brock.

In 1986 he became a professional in Denmark and was managed by the Palle team. He won 14 fights in a row, 8 of them prematurely, but then lost in the fight for the European Championship of the EBU against the Italian Angelo Rottoli. In a subsequent WBO world championship fight in December 1989 in Copenhagen , he had to admit defeat on points against title holder Boone Pultz . However, he won the direct rematch in May 1990 in Aars by tKo in the fifth round and then defended the world championship belt in December 1990 unanimously on points against the Argentine Daniel Neto. He won another title defense in February 1991 on points against Tyrone Booze . He then resigned the title and ended his boxer career in 1993 with a record of 19 wins and 3 losses.

In 2004 Magne Havnå had an accident in a fjord off Risør with his 75 hp motorboat and died at the scene of the accident. His 38-year-old wife survived the accident.

His son Kai Robin Havna is one of the best boxers in Norway and was among other things a participant in the 2013 World Championships. In 2014 he was signed by the German boxing stable Sauerland Event .
