Tyrone Booze

Tyrone Booze (born February 12, 1959 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is a former American professional cruiserweight boxer . Since 1991 he has lived in Clearwater , Florida .

He started his professional career in 1982 and scored only 15 wins in his first 27 fights. He suffered his defeats against the world-class boxers Eddie Muhammad , Evander Holyfield , Bert Cooper , Henry Tillman , Dwight Qawi and Nate Miller , but he was always able to go over the full number of laps. On February 15, 1991 he was able to box in Denmark for the WBO World Championship against Magne Havnå , but lost just on points.

After Havnå had resigned as world champion, Booze was allowed to compete again on July 25, 1992 in Manchester for the now vacant title. He surprisingly defeated the undefeated British Derek Angol by knockout in the seventh round. In his first title defense on October 2, 1992 in Berlin , he was just as surprisingly able to beat the German Ralf Rocchigiani unanimously on points.

On February 13, 1993, he finally lost the title in Hamburg by losing points to Markus Bott . After six more fights with five wins, he ended his career in September 1998 with a record of 22 wins, 12 defeats, 2 draws and a valueless duel.

After his active career, he worked as a boxing trainer in Florida. He was inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011.
