Yamaoka Magokichi
Yamaoka Magokichi ( Japanese 山岡 孫吉 ; * March 22, 1888 , † March 8, 1962 ) was a Japanese entrepreneur.
Yamaoka founded the mechanical engineering company Yanmar in 1912 . Before the Second World War he studied in Munich . He was also interested in Rudolf Diesel , which is why he was often in Augsburg in the course of his research . After the end of the war, now back at his company, he donated the Rudolf Diesel Memorial Grove there in Wittelsbacher Park . In 1955 he was awarded the Rudolf Diesel Medal . At his instigation, the Japanese cities of Amagasaki and Nagahama , where his company's production facilities were located, became official partner cities of Augsburg in 1959 .
