geography

Geographical location, protected areas

The place is on the plateau of the Kuppenalb around six kilometers east of Münsingen on the edge of the former military training area . The neighboring town is Böttingen .

history

In 1275 Magolsheim was first mentioned as Magolfesheim . In 1396, Württemberg acquired a third of the place. Two thirds went to the Counts of Stadion in 1572 . In 1743 this district was also sold to Württemberg. From 1808 Magolsheim belonged to the Oberamt (from 1938 district) Münsingen. As part of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg , the place was incorporated into Münsingen on January 1, 1975.

The Württemberg part of the village became Protestant in 1595, but the rest of the village remained Catholic, as the gentlemen from Stadion were in Austrian service and this part of the village thus belonged to Upper Austria . To this day there are two churches in Magolsheim (Protestant and Catholic). The old Dionysius Church in Magolsheim was initially used simultaneously until it collapsed in 1870. At the same place, the current Protestant church in neo-Romanesque style was built by the Münsingen official builder Bosler in 1871. In the same year, the Catholic community built its own church, which was replaced by the current building in 1936 and continues the Dionysius patronage .
