Mahamane Bakabé

Mahamane Bakabé (* 1947 in Gazaoua ) is a Nigerien film director .

Life

Mahamane Bakabé is a trained teacher. From 1970 to 1973 he produced animated educational films for Niger's school television . He then trained as a director and producer at the Institut national de l'audiovisuel in France , which he completed in 1975.

Bakabé then worked for the Office de Radiodiffusion et Télévision du Niger (ORTN), the state broadcaster in Niger. From 1979 he worked there as television production manager, from 1983 as television program director and from 1987 as director of the regional broadcasters. In 1980 he also became president of the Association nigérienne des cinéastes , the Nigerien filmmakers' association. At the same time he directed several short films, mostly documentary, and finally in 1982 the feature film Si les cavaliers , with which he became famous in Niger. Based on a template by André Salifou , Si les cavaliers deals with the historical events surrounding the deaths of the officer Marius Gabriel Cazemajou and the sultan Amadou dan Ténimoun at the end of the 19th century.

From 1991 to 1996 Mahamane Bakabé worked in various management positions for the Nigerien Ministry of Communication, Culture, Youth and Sport. He then coordinated a UNICEF communications staff from 1997 to 1999 . Then he founded an independent media agency.
