The Mahindra KUV 100 is a vehicle from the Indian manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited . KUV means Kool Utility Vehicle . The vehicle is one of the compact mini sport utility vehicles widespread in India, compact, somewhat tall small cars with soft suspension and large ground clearance such as the Renault Kwid or the Maruti Swift. It is the second passenger car from Mahindra & Mahindra after the larger XUV 500 and, like this one, has a self-supporting body. Mahindra & Mahindra had previously only built commercial vehicles and assembled parts kits .

body

The car has four doors and a tailgate and is available with five or six seats. The gearshift lever sits on the dashboard so it is out of the way of the sixth seat. Its backrest can be folded down and then serves as an armrest with a cup holder. The outside handles of the rear doors are behind the windows. The equipment includes airbags and belt tensioners for the driver and front passenger and an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution .

Drive and chassis

Two motors are available for the KUV 100. They were developed in cooperation with the South Korean automobile manufacturer SsangYong , which is now part of Mahindra :

  • The mFalcon G80, a three-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.2 liters and a maximum output of 61 kW (83 PS) at 5500 rpm, which can deliver a maximum torque of 115 Nm between 3500 and 3600 rpm. It has a start-stop system and variable valve timing. According to the Indian ARAI standard, the vehicle's consumption with this engine is 18.15 km / l, which corresponds to 5.5 l / 100 km.
  • The mFalcon D75, a three-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 1.2 liters, which delivers a maximum of 57 kW (77 hp) at 3750 rpm and can deliver a maximum torque of 190 Nm between 1750 and 2250 rpm. It has a turbocharger, an intercooler and common rail direct injection. The engine can work in two modes, Power and Eco. In Eco mode, the engine does a little less and the rev limiter kicks in earlier. According to the manufacturer, it should achieve a value of 25.32 km / liter in ARAI eco mode, i.e. consume 3.95 l / 100 km.

The engine is installed across the front of the vehicle and drives the front wheels via a five-speed gearbox . They are individually suspended from wishbones and MacPherson struts ; a torsion beam axle with coil springs is installed for the rear wheels . The rack and pinion steering works with electric servo, the brakes have an anti-lock braking system , disc brakes are installed at the front and drum brakes at the rear . The car runs on 185/65 R14 tires.

At the Auto Expo in February 2018, Mahindra presented the eKUV 100, an electric version of the vehicle. It should be sold in India from late 2018 or early 2019. The eKUV 100 is driven by a 30 kW (41 PS) electric motor . The manufacturer specifies the range as 140 km.
