Mahmoud Hammoud
Mahmud Hammud (* 1935 in Kfarkila, Marjayoun District in southern Lebanon ; † May 8, 2018 ) was a career diplomat and Foreign Minister of Lebanon . Hammud was a Shiite Muslim .
He served as ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (1978 to 1983), the Federal Republic of Germany (1983 to 1985), the Soviet Union and Finland (1986 to 1990) and the United Kingdom (1990–1999) and is a pro-Syrian politician .
In October 2000, Hammud became foreign minister for the first time. After a cabinet reshuffle in April 2003, he became Minister of Defense . After Omar Karami was appointed Lebanese Prime Minister in October 2004, he was reappointed Foreign Minister. Karami and his cabinet resigned in March 2005 due to the Cedar Revolution . He was succeeded by Fawzi Salloukh .
