The Main Range is a mountain area in the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales in Australia . It extends around Mount Kosciuszko , the highest mountain on mainland Australia. Almost all two thousand meter peaks in Australia are in the main range. It is part of the Great Dividing Range .

The highest ten mountains in the Main Range are Mount Kosciuszko (2228 m), Mount Townsend (2209 m), Mount Twynam (2195 m), Rams Head (2190 m), Etheridge Ridge (2180 m), North Rams Head (2177 m) , Byatts Camp Peak (2159 m), Carruthers Peak (2145 m), Abbott Peak (2140 m) and Watson's Crag Dome (2136 m). The peaks can usually be hiked without any climbing knowledge.
Demarcation
There are 25 mountains over 2000 meters on mainland Australia. They are all located in the Snowy Mountains in the state of New South Wales in southeastern Australia. The Main Range lies between the Ramshead Range and the Dicky Cooper Bogong mountain (1972 m). The mountains Gungartan , Mount Jagungal and Kerries Ridge , which lie a little to the northeast, do not belong to the Main Range .
In addition to the Main Range in the Snowy Mountains, a mountain range in Queensland is also known as the Main Range , which arose from volcanic activity.
