Al-Haji Yusuf Maitama Sule

Dan Kano Masanin Maitama Sule (born on 1. October 1929 in Kano , State of Kano , Nigeria , died on 3. July 2017 in Cairo ) was a Nigerian historian, politician and diplomat. He was the former Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations and the former Nigerian Minister for National Guidance .

The "Dan Masanin of Kano" was a leading figure in the Emirate of Kano . He believed in a continental connection between the Hausas and the people of Ethiopia . As evidence, he cited linguistic similarities and a common worship of the sun prior to the arrival of Islam and Christianity.

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( Engl. A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (Engl. "Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... ") (October 13, 2007).
