Makhdoom Amin Fahim (born August 4, 1939 in Hala , Sindh , British India ; † November 21, 2015 in Karachi , Pakistan ) was a Pakistani politician of the Pakistani People's Party (PPP), of which he was deputy chairman.

Life

Makhdoom Amin Fahim came from a large landowning family in Hala, Sindh. His father Makhdoom Talib-ul-Maula was one of the co-founders of the PPP with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto . His political career began in 1970 with the election as a member of the "National Assembly". During Benazir Bhutto's tenure as Prime Minister, he was minister from 1988 to 1990 and 1993 to 1996. During Benazir Bhutto's exile from 1999 to 2007, he served as the party's deputy chairman and as chairman of the PPP parliamentary group its representative in Pakistan. He was always considered her close follower. In 2002, for example, he turned down an offer from President Pervez Musharraf to change sides and take over the post of prime minister.

After the success of his party in the parliamentary elections on February 18, 2008, he was considered the most promising candidate for the office of prime minister in a coalition with the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) led by Nawaz Sharif . Ultimately, however, in March 2008 the PPP nominated former minister and parliamentary speaker Yousaf Raza Gillani for this office.
