Makoto Arai

Makoto Arai (born June 27, 1950 in Niigata Prefecture ) is a Japanese law scholar and professor at Chūō University .

life and work

Arai studied law at Keiō University , where he earned his Master of Laws in 1975 . He then went to the University of Munich as a research assistant . There he was in 1979 under the supervision of Sten Gagner Dr. iur. PhD. At the same time, he completed his doctorate at Keiō University in 1980. From 19919 to 1993 he was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation . In 2006 he received the Humboldt Research Award and in 2010 the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .

Arai was for many years a professor at the University of Tsukuba and dean of the law school there for ten years, before moving to his current position as a professor at Chūō University in 2011 . Among other things, he is a member of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and the German Supervision Court, President of the Japanese Society for Adult Guardianship Law and Director of the Japanese Society for Trust Law . His main research interests are property law, trust law, adult protection law and social law.
