Volker Lipp

Volker Lipp (born August 9, 1962 in Göppingen ) is a German lawyer , university professor and currently (2020) Deputy Chairman of the German Ethics Council .

Life

Lipp studied law in Mannheim , Heidelberg and Göttingen from 1982 to 1988 and graduated with the first state examination in law. The second state examination in law followed in 1991 , before he worked as a research assistant to Hans-Martin Pawlowski at the University of Mannheim from 1991 to 1999 .

In 1994 he received his doctorate with the text “The judge's private knowledge. On the impartiality of the judge in the process ” at the University of Mannheim . In 1999 Lipp received his habilitation on the basis of the publication "Freedom and Welfare: The Human Being as Legal Entity - On the Function and Position of Legal Supervision in Private Law" and at the same time was awarded the license to teach the subjects of civil law , civil procedural law , international private law and comparative law.

After a professorship in Munich , he accepted a professorship at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen for a chair in civil law, civil procedural law, medical law and comparative law. He turned down a call to the University of Regensburg (2011).

From 2005 to 2007 Lipp was Dean of the Faculty of Law and has been a member of the Göttingen Center for Medical Law since 2006. Since 2010 he has been a member of the Central Ethics Commission at the German Medical Association .

In 2016 he was appointed to the German Ethics Council by the President of the German Bundestag , Norbert Lammert , of which he has been Deputy Chairman since 2018.

The Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest awarded Lipp an honorary doctorate in 2016 .
