Malakoff (cheese dish)
A Malakoff is a fried cheese slice from Swiss cuisine .
origin
In the Crimean War of 1854/55, despite the ban, there were still Swiss travelers whose mission was successful in the conquest of Fort Malakow under the command of Marshal Aimable Pélissier , who later became Duc de Malakow. Back home, a cheese cake was created that has been named Malakoff and is still offered as a specialty in the Vinzel , Luins , Bursins and Begnins region on Lake Geneva. There is only agreement about the real recipe that the dish is fried.
This dish is not to be confused with the sweet dish of the same name, the Malakoff cake known in Austria , a kind of Charlotten .
The spelling is inconsistent in both the cheese dish and the cake, both with -ff (Malakoff) and -w (Malakow).
