Malawi Airlines (until 2016 Malawian Airlines ) is the national airline of Malawi based in Lilongwe and based at Lilongwe Airport and a subsidiary of Ethiopian Airlines .
history
Malawi Airlines was founded in 2013 by the Malawian government and Ethiopian Airlines as a replacement for Air Malawi , which had to cease operations in 2013. Air traffic began on January 31, 2014 with a Boeing 737-800 and a De Havilland DHC-8-400 operated by Ethiopian Airlines. The government owns 51% and Ethiopian Airlines 49% of the airline.
In 2016 the airline got its current name.
