There is cooperation in various areas of environmental protection and environmental technology. There are also collaborations in the field of sustainable tourism. For example, Austria awards grants to citizens of the Maldives, in particular for the "Hotel and Tourism Management" course in Schloss Klessheim ( Salzburg ).

In 1993 the then Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Fathulla Jameel, attended the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna.
