Malfunkshun was an American band that existed from 1979 to 1987. The name of the band is a combination of the English word malfunction ("malfunction") and the music genre funk . Malfunkshun was one of the original bands of Mother Love Bone .

history

founding

Malfunkshun was founded in Seattle by the brothers Andrew Wood ( bass , vocals ), Kevin Wood ( guitar ) and their mutual friend Reagan Hagar ( drums ) .

resolution

After his first rehab, Andrew Wood already started playing solo through the small clubs and bars of Seattle as L' Andrew the Love Child when Green River, one of the most famous bands on the scene, broke up on Halloween 1987. Andrew worked with Jeff Ament (then bass player for Green River , later Pearl Jam ) and was invited by him to rehearsals with Stone Gossard and Bruce Fairweather (both guitarists for Green River ). After initial hesitation out of consideration for his brother, he accepted the offer as a singer, took Reagan Hagar with him as drummer, and the new band, initially under the name Lords of the Wasteland , became Mother Love Bone within three months without Hagar has been.

style

Malfunkshun was at home in the glam rock and funk of the 1970s and combined it with a futuristic look (Andy was mostly made up in white and wore thick lipstick). The songs were mostly about love, but also about substance abuse . According to Andy, Malfunkshun were a “love rock band” in contrast to the “satanic” bands that dominated the metal scene at the time .
