Mother Love Bone was an American hard rock - band , the 1987 first as "Lords of the Wasteland" in Seattle from the bands Green River and Malfunkshun emerged. Lords of the Wasteland briefly (November to mid-December 1987) consisted of former members of these two bands: Andrew Wood , Stone Gossard , Bruce Fairweather, Jeff Ament and Regan Hagar.

After a short time, Hagar left the band and founded the band Bliss with Kevin Wood, Andrew's older brother. Lords of the Wasteland became Mother Love Bone following the addition of Greg Gilmore from Ten Minute Warning. The band name is derived from a lyrics by Andy Woods (Capricorn Sister).

Mother Love Bone released after she already had a record deal with Polygram , the EP Shine via a specially founded independent label . On it are the tracks Thru Fade Away, Mindshaker Meltdown, Half as Monkey Boy and Chloedancer / Crown of Thorns , which is part of the soundtrack Singles - Lonely together .

After the EP was released, Mother Love Bone went on tour in March 1989 as the opening act for The Dogs D'Amour . Only in the Northwest did the group headline it . Then the recordings for the album Apple began . They were interrupted by Andy Woods drug withdrawal due to heroin addiction , which lasted until December 1989.

Mother Love Bone's last appearance was on December 29, 1989 in the club "The Rocket" together with several other bands from the Seattle area .

At the beginning of March 1990, studio work on Apple was completed. The publication should take place at the beginning of April of the year. On March 16, 1990, singer Andy Wood was found comatose by his girlfriend in the evening . The cause was a relapse after injecting heroin. After three days, the devices that were keeping Wood alive were turned off.

With Andy Wood's death, Mother Love Bone dissolved. The album Apple was released posthumously in July 1990.

Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament , along with Mike McCready and Eddie Vedder, later founded Pearl Jam , which became one of the most famous bands of the grunge era.

Andy Woods former roommate and friend Chris Cornell (then Soundgarden and later Audioslave ) initiated as a tribute project Temple of the Dog , named as a throwback to the text of Man of Golden Words, along with Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Eddie Vedder and drummer Matt Cameron (then Soundgarden, then Pearl Jam).
