Malkah Rabell

Malkah Rabell , née Regina Rosa Rabinowitz Companiez (born October 29, 1918 in Warsaw , Poland ; † June 25, 2001 in Mexico City ), was a Polish theater critic, novelist, writer and translator living in Mexico .

Life

She was the daughter of the Jewish Polish director Leon Rabinowitz and his wife, the operetta actress Betty Rabinowitz. In 1937 she and her parents came to Mexico via France and Belgium, where she completed her high school diploma. She then started studying chemistry at the University of Mexico City. However, she soon switched to the philosophy faculty.

Between 1943/46 and 1958 she lived with her husband in Argentina before she returned to Mexico, where she worked as a freelance writer, theater critic and cultural journalist until her death. She wrote not only about theater, but also about dance, music, Mexican sculpture and the biographies of various writers, musicians and philosophers in Mexico and Argentina.

She dedicated her first work, the collection of novels En el umbral de los ghettos , published in 1945, to the International Brigades of the Spanish Civil War , for which her husband Juan Goldstraj had worked as a surgeon.

She also worked as a translator.

Malkah Rabell was the second wife of the Argentine medic, surgeon, writer and translator Juan Goldstraj. Her sister was the Polish poet Fanny Rabel , who as an artist maintained contacts with Frieda Kahlo , Diego Rivera and other people.
