Malta Song for Europe 1996 (abbreviation: MSFE 1996 ) was the Maltese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 , which took place in Oslo ( Norway ) after Secret Garden had won the Eurovision Song Contest the previous year with their song Nocturne . The competition was won by Miriam Christine Borg with the song In a Woman's Heart . The competition was also known as the Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija għall-Ewropa 1996 .
principle
A total of 16 entries were selected by an expert jury to take part in the semifinals, which took place on January 26, 1996 in the Mediterranean Conference Center . As in previous years, the songs were performed exclusively in English on January 26th . As in the previous year, only the first three placements were announced. The jury selected the 10 finalists with 100% of the votes, who entered on January 26th to represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest.
In contrast to the previous year, there was a semi-final.
The artists had the choice of performing their songs in English or Maltese , since both languages are their official language, but they all chose English.
