The mamelieres are part of medieval armor from the 14th century . There are suspensions on the breastplate for weapon chains.

description

The mamelieres are usually made of iron or steel . They are made round or star-shaped. In the middle there are rings that are used to hook weapon chains. The mamelieres are attached to the plate of the breastplate. The weapon chains attached to them are used to attach swords, daggers and a helmet.

In England , arms chains attached to Mamelieres for attaching swords and helmets were introduced at the beginning of the 14th century under Edward II as part of the armor of knights according to their rank . The weapon chains are attached to the pommel of both weapons to prevent them from being lost if they slip out of your hands. The number of mamelieres varies . As a rule, two to four chains were attached to the breastplates. The attachment of weapon chains to the breastplate was given up again after a short time.
