Mamiya Rinzo
Mamiya Rinzō ( Japanese 間 宮 林 蔵 ; * around 1775 in Kamihirayanagi, Tsukuba-gun , Hitachi Province (today: Kamihirayanagi, Tsukubamirai , Ibaraki Prefecture ); † April 13, 1844 ) was a Japanese navigator and cartographer of the Edo period .
Mamiya is known for researching and mapping Sakhalin . He recognized the island character and was able to prove that Sakhalin has no connection to the Asian mainland due to the Tatar Sound .
In his later life, Mamiya lived underground as an agent of the Tokugawa shogunate .
