Smoothly demarcated mammary cyst

A breast cyst is a benign formation of the female breast in which the acini is blocked and secretions accumulate . They are a common side effect of fibrocystic mastopathy .

Breast cysts often develop quickly and can be mistaken for breast cancer by patients due to the nodular palpation findings . The diagnostic work-up is carried out by breast ultrasound , in which the cysts appear as anechoic, clearly delimited structures with no papillary structures on the edge. On mammography , cysts show up as sharply delimited structures with an indicated halo phenomenon. Under certain circumstances, a puncture ( fine needle biopsy ) under ultrasound control with cytological examination of the secretion may be indicated.

Treatment is only indicated for recurrent multiple cysts. Can be used danazol , tamoxifen or GnRH analogues such as goserelin .
