Mammillaria brachytrichion is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet brachytrichion means '(Greek brachy) short and (Greek trichion) narrow hair'.

description

Mammillaria brachytrichion grows individually or in groups. The depressed body is short, cylindrical, spherical and dark green. It reaches a height of 1 to 2 centimeters and a diameter of 1.5 to 4 centimeters. The cylindrical warts are without milky sap . The axillae are without bristles. The thorns appear feathery under the magnifying glass. They have fine, downy hairs. The 7 to 11  central spines are finely needle-like, reddish-brown with a yellowish base and 0.6 inches long; sometimes one is hooked. The 26 to 32 radial spines are whitish to yellowish-brown with a dark tip. They are straight, needle-like and stiff and are 0.7 to 1 centimeter long.

The broad, funnel-shaped flowers are white with a pink central stripe. They grow to be 1 to 1.2 inches long and 1.2 to 1.4 inches in diameter. The fruits are small and green. They contain brownish to black seeds .

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria brachytrichion is common in the Mexican state of Durango .

It was first described in 1987 by Jonas Martin Lüthy . The following species is regarded as a synonym : Mammillaria pennispinosa subsp. brachytrichion (Lüthy) and Guzmann (2003).
