Mammillaria canelensis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet canelensis means 'occurring in Canela'.

description

Mammillaria canelensis grows individually and later with multiple heads. The spherical plant bodies are up to 5 centimeters high and higher and up to 11 centimeters in diameter. The conical warts are filled with milky juice . The axillae are covered with thick, long wool and bristles. The 2 to 4  central spines (occasionally up to 10) are needle-like, stiff, sometimes straight, mostly curved. They are orange-yellow to reddish-brown and are up to 3 centimeters long. The 8 to 25 radial spines are needle-like white and 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters long.

The flowers are yellow or pink. They grow to be up to 1.5 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter. The fruits are more or less purple in color. They contain brown seeds .

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria canelensis is common in the Mexican state of Chihuahua .

The first description was in 1945 by Robert T. Craig .
