Mammillaria carnea is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet carnea means '(Latin carneus) flesh-colored'.

description

Mammillaria carnea first sprouts individually when old. The spherical to cylindrical plant bodies are up to 20 centimeters high and 8 to 12 centimeters in diameter. The firm, pyramidal and clearly angular warts have a milky sap . The 4 pink-brown colored  central spines have a black tip. They are stiff, straight or curved, and 0.8 to 2 inches long. The radial spines are completely absent or are only present as bristles.

The funnel-shaped pale pink flowers are 1.5 to 2 inches long and 1.2 to 1.5 inches in diameter. The red fruits contain brown seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria carnea is common in the Mexican states of Guerrero , Puebla and Oaxaca .

It was first described in 1837 by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
