Mammillaria estebanensis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet estebanensis refers to the occurrence of the species on the island of San Esteban .

description

Mammillaria estebanensis grows individually or in groups. The gray-green, cylindrical shoots have a rounded apex. They grow up to 50 centimeters high and 6 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The warts are firm, pyramidal and without milky sap . The axillae are covered with wool and 5 to 8 long bristles with a length of up to 0.8 centimeters. One  central spine is brown with a dark tip. It is straight or hooked and between 0.4 and 1.5 centimeters long. The 15 to 22 radial spines are needle-like, straight, brownish to golden or white and up to 1 centimeter long.

The funnel-shaped or bell-shaped flowers are up to white and up to 2 inches long and 2.5 inches in diameter. The red fruits contain black seeds .

The species is closely related to Mammillaria dioica .

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria estebanensis is distributed in the Mexican state of Baja California on the island of San Esteban and on the San Lorenzo archipelago .

The first description was in 1967 by George Edmund Lindsay .

Mammillaria dioica f. estebanensis (GELinds.) Neutel. (1986), Mammillaria angelensis var. Estebanensis (GELinds.) Repp. (1987) Mammillaria dioica subsp. estebanensis (GELinds.) DRHunt (1998) and Cochemiea dioica subsp. estebanensis (GELinds.) Doweld (2000).
