Mammillaria flavicentra is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Mammillaria flavicentra usually grows individually. The spherical to cylindrical shoots are up to 18 centimeters high and 9 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The pyramidal warts are without milky sap . The axillae are covered with wool. The 4 to 6  central spines are yellowish and 0.5 to 0.6 inches long. The 22 to 24 radial spines are glassy white. They become 0.2 to 0.4 inches long.

The very small red flowers are 0.3 to 0.4 centimeters in diameter. The club-shaped, apically pink, including whitish green fruits are up to 1.5 centimeters long. They contain brown seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria flavicentra is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla .

It was first described in 1980 as by Roy Mottram . Curt Backeberg originally described the species under the same name as early as 1963. Since Backeberg had not deposited a holotype, the description is only validated by Mottram.

Synonyms are the following species and varieties described:
Mammillaria dixanthocentron var. Flavicentra (Backeb. Ex Mottram) Repp. (1987) and Mammillaria dixanthocentron subsp. flavicentra (Backeb. ex Mottram) and Guzmán (2003).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
