Mammillaria humboldtii is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt .

description

Mammillaria humboldtii grows solitary to many-headed. The depressed, spherical and light green shoots are up to 7 centimeters high and reach an equally large diameter. The cylindrically shaped warts have a rounded tip. You are without milky juice . The axillae are covered with wool and white bristles. Central spines are completely absent. The up to 80 or more radial spines are uneven, radiate in a star shape and white. They are 4 to 6 millimeters long.

The flowers are bright purple-pink. They are 2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter. The red fruits are club-shaped. They contain black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria humboldtii is common in the Mexican state of Hidalgo .

The first description was in 1840 by Carl August Ehrenberg . Synonyms are Ebnerella humboldtii (C.Ehrenb.) Buxb. (1951), Chilita humboldtii (C.Ehrenb.) Buxb. (1954, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 33.3) and Escobariopsis humboldtii (C.Ehrenb.) Doweld (2000).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
