Mammillaria multidigitata is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet multidigitata means (lat. Multidigitatus) vielgefingert, vielfingerig as much as reichsprossend '.
description
Mammillaria multidigitata grows abundantly sprouting and forms large groups of over a hundred individual bodies. The cylindrically shaped, green shoots are 5 to 20 centimeters high and 2 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The dull warts do not contain milk juice . The axillae are covered with some wool. The 4 central spines are straight, or sometimes one is hooked, needle-like, white with a brown tip and up to 8 millimeters long. The 15 to 25 spread radial spines are white and 6 to 8 millimeters long.
The flowers are white to cream-colored and up to 1.5 inches long. The club fruits are red. They are up to 1.5 inches long and contain brown seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria multidigitata is distributed in the Mexican state of Sonora on the island of San Pedro Nolasco in the Gulf of California. The first description was in 1947 by George Edmund Lindsay .
Synonyms are Mammillaria dioica var. Multidigitata (Radley ex GELinds.) Neutel. (1986) and Bartschella multidigitata (Radley ex GELinds.) Doweld (2000).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
