Mammillaria orcuttii is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet orcuttii honors the American naturalist and plant hunter Charles Russell Orcutt .

description

Mammillaria orcuttii usually grows individually, with spherical to short club-shaped, shiny blue-green shoots . The short conical, apically rounded warts contain plenty of milky juice . The axillae are heavily woolly. The 4 to 5  central spines are blackish brown and are 0.8 to 2 inches long. The radial spines are usually completely absent or are sometimes present in the form of 6 to 8 short, hair-like spines.

The bright carmine-red flowers have a darker central stripe. They are 1.2 inches in diameter. The red fruits contain black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria orcuttii is common in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí .

It was first described in 1930 by Friedrich Bödeker . The synonym : Mammillaria phantasma Sotom., Arredondo & M.Mart.Mend. (1999).

Mammillaria orcuttii is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
