Mammillaria poselgeri is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German botanist Heinrich Poselger (1818–1883).
description
Mammillaria poselgeri grows branching from the base, creating larger groups. The individual shoots are cylindrical in shape and are up to 2 meters long and 4 centimeters in diameter, often hanging over rocks. The individual warts are triangular in shape, somewhat rounded apically and are more or less distant. The axillae are covered with a few bristles. The hooked central spine is 1.5 to 2 centimeters long. Up to 8 radial spines with a length of 1 centimeter are brown with a white tip.
The 3 cm tall crooked flowers are red. The fruits are spherical to broadly elongated and also colored red.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria poselgeri is common in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur .
The first description was in 1885 by Heinrich Hildmann († 1895) in the garden newspaper .
Synonyms are the following described species and varieties: Cochemiea poselgeri (Hildm.) Britton & Rose (1923), Mammillaria roseana K.Brandegee (1891), Cactus roseanus (K.Brandegee) JMCoulter (1894), Cochemiea roseana (K.Brandegee) Walton (1899) and Mammillaria radliana Quehl (1892).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
