Manuel Joseph "Man" Parrish (born May 6, 1958 in New York City ) is one of the pioneers of electronic music and created fundamental elements for the hip-hop and electro scene.
Career
In the early 1980s, Parrish was a regular visitor to the trendy club Studio 54 . Influenced by the music of Brian Eno and Kraftwerk , he recorded the instrumental piece Hip-Hop Be Bop , which became very popular in the clubs of New York and spread widely. He then turned to the label imports , which started with him an album. The album reached number 43 on the R&B charts and sold over two million copies worldwide. The song became a club hit and peaked at number 4 on the United States dance chart. He also placed on the R&B charts and the UK charts. Another important and successful song was Boogie Down Bronx . Both works are considered formative for electro , techno , freestyle as well as for hip-hop and the styles developing around this musical genre.
After that, however, he fell into a creative hole before he returned as a producer and remixer and worked with stars like Michael Jackson , Gloria Gaynor , Boy George and Village People . As a DJ, the gay musician played in gay clubs in New York. With the Hi-NRG band Man 2 Man he recorded the title Male Stripper in 1986 , which became an international hit and reached number 4 in the UK.
It wasn't until 1997 that Man Parrish released a second album called Dreamtime .
